Northumbrian Water Group

We’re excited to share a recent project that transformed the atrium space for Northumbrian Water Group, at their Essex and Suffolk office in Chelmsford.

Previously, the area was divided into a small dining section and an informal seating zone, but it lacked a clear purpose and natural flow. The initial plan was to keep some of the original furniture, but we soon realized the space needed more flexibility to meet a variety of needs.

Now, it can easily transition from a large meeting area to smaller brainstorming zones or even a conference setup, allowing the space to adapt to the needs of its users.

Atrium

By taking advantage of the atrium’s height and natural light, we added eye-catching elements like poseur and dining-height canopy tables, cozy two-person rooved dens, and Dixie high-back lounge chairs near the windows. These choices bring a unique visual impact and also create intimate seating options, perfect for more private conversations.

Lounge Area

The centrally located lounge area features a bespoke curved metal frame screen that serves as a room divider. Enclosing the soft seating, the divider is fully backed with PET felt, creating a cozy, quiet atmosphere by effectively reducing noise from the nearby dining area.

Multipurpose Space

With mobile furniture and reconfigurable layouts, this area can seamlessly shift from a large meeting space to smaller brainstorming zones or even a conference setting. Each element is purposefully designed to support the evolving requirements of those who use it.

Dining & Break Area

The dining area has been thoughtfully divided into distinct zones, including lounge, dining, touchdown, and breakout spaces. Each area flows naturally into the next, ensuring easy movement and a sense of openness.

Wirral Council

Design and space plan over four floors to relocate 800 staff from the Cheshire Lines Building to the new H.Q. at Mallory Building. Jenkinsons identified and sourced suitable furniture products to create meeting and collaborative areas.

Cost control and planning were effectively managed by incorporating and reusing furniture from the existing building into the new building, including relocating 500 existing desks and 800 existing chairs, including meeting chairs.

Jenkinsons cleaned and refurbished the existing seating and refreshed the lockers donating any surplus furniture to local charities and NHS locations. This ensured a sustainable and community-focused approach.

Offices

The office space features meeting and collaborative areas, furnished with carefully sourced products to enhance functionality and aesthetics. The layout integrates 500 existing desks and 800 chairs, including meeting chairs, which were relocated from the previous building.

Meeting Room

Jenkinsons team designed and equipped meeting rooms as part of this project. These spaces were planned to facilitate collaboration and productivity, featuring carefully sourced furniture to create a professional and comfortable environment.

Staff Area

Staff room was planned to provide a comfortable and inviting environment for employees, featuring comfortable furniture to promote relaxation and social interaction.

Royal Liverpool University Hospital

Clatterbridge Hospital

The specialist 11-storey hospital has 110-inpatient beds and delivers a wide range of highly-specialist cancer care including pioneering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy, haemato-oncology and radiotherapy.

The building has been specially designed to enhance wellbeing, healing and recovery through a close connection to nature and a sense of light and space, despite its city-centre location.

“Jenkinsons were successfully appointed after a mini competition process via the SBS Framework. The products offered were of the required high-level specification requested for Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust. As part of the furniture requirements for the new 11 storey Cancer Centre, high level boutique furniture was required to aid patient recovery akin to a hotel setting rather than hospital feel.

The furniture required for the building comprised of large multi person desk configurations, task and meeting furniture and staff breakout areas.

Significantly there were several large and complex waiting areas that required redesign with client engagement and 3D rendering to visualise the anticipated outcome.

Whilst a challenging programme this intensified due to the global pandemic and a lot of uncertainty around programme and deliveries. With an incredibly short commissioning programme coupled with the pandemic, H Jenkinson were outstanding on this project in completing the full installations to programme.

The success of the project has led to further work being awarded including a large open plan office space for approximately 100 desks, as well as bistro and breakout and meeting areas. ”

Krones, a worldwide supplier to the beverage and liquid food industries, had run its UK business from Wingates Industrial Park in Bolton for nearly 30 years. In 2017 the company decided it was time to give something back to its staff and improve working practices.
